MAC desktop computer.should I get it?

I’m looking into buying a MAC Desktop computer but I have a few concerns. A friend of mine has one an I noticed that his does not have microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, etc. Everything a college student like myself needs in a computer. I really love the overall look and capability of the MAC the idea of a computer that doesn’t crash sold me but I noticed that a few Microsoft programs are not compatible with it. Today I tried transferring songs from a MAC to my ZUNE mp3 player and the computer wouldn’t even recognize my device. Would I be making a poor investment buying this product?
